DENON will implement a new sound mode called DTS Virtual:X as a world's first in selected all FY17 AV Receivers by free of charge in the next November firmware update. 

What is DTS Virtual:X?

With conventional 5.1 or 7.1 floor speaker configuration (or even with 2.1 configuration theoretically, without any ceiling, height, or Dolby Atmos speakers), you can enjoy "Virtual" height effects from stereo to DTS encoded channel multi-channel contents such as DTS-HD, DTHS-HD MA as well as DTS:X objected based contents. Here is a short clip prepared by DTS to introduce the feature: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVqGmpofMX0&feature=youtu.be.

Please note that Virtual:X will NOT be available if your speaker configuration contains any Height, Dolby or Top speaker.

Here is the list of the products that will receive DTS Virtual:X firmware update next month. The date is currently set on November 15th.

Denon AVR-X1400H

Denon AVR-X2400H

Denon AVR-X3400H

Please note that this update will include the maintenance release for all Dolby and DTS decoders as well.

Limitations and Notes:
1.  DTS Virtual:X cannot be used together with Audyssey MultEQ / MultEQ-XT / MultEQ-XT32 room equaliser. Audyssey will be disabled when using DTS Virtual:X for the models listed above. If you receive questions from customers, please answer ON REQUEST ONLY that usage of Audyssey is not possible during playback of Virtual:X because of DSP capacity limitation / specific hardware used in these models.

2.  Due to our license agreement with Dolby, it is prohibited to use DTS Virtual:X for Dolby content. Therefore, DTS Virtual:X cannot be chosen if the input signal is Dolby signal. Note that this is not hardware or software limitation. This is solely to comply with Dolby regulations. Workaround would be to set the source device decoding the Dolby content and output as multichannel PCM (if possible).

The following models will receive the DTS Virtual:X updates in spring 2018:

• Denon AVR-X4400H
  
• Denon AVR-X6400H
  

Limitation 2 will apply to these models as well.

Please note that the technology will not be available for non-DTS:X supportive AVR such as Denon AVR-X540BT.
