Please use the following Alexa-friendly names for your HEOS-enabled devices:

    • Bathroom
    • Bedroom
    • Deck
    • Den
    • Dining Room
    • Family Room
    • Foyer
    • Garage
    • Garden

NOTE: If you already have other smart-home devices with those names, you can use almost any unique sounding words for your HEOS device name. For example, try changing the name to "Living Room TV", “Bedroom 1”, etc in the HEOS app. It’s important to ask Alexa to rescan your devices by saying "Alexa, discover my devices." so she discovers the new device name.

  • What Alexa voice commands support the HEOS Home Entertainment Skill?

HEOS keeps getting better and better with new updates. With HEOS Home Entertainment skill, you can use voice commands to search for songs, albums and artists — and even podcasts and internet radio stations. For a list of current Alexa voice commands supported by the HEOS Home Entertainment Skill, click here.

Ask Alexa to stream specific audio content to your HEOS-enabled devices. The HEOS Home Entertainment skill currently supports the following services:

    • Amazon Prime Music
    • Amazon Music Unlimited
    • TuneIn
    • Pandora
    • iHeart Radio
    • Spotify (coming soon)
    • SiriusXM (coming soon)

Here are some examples of what you can say:

    • “Alexa, play Shape of You by Ed Sheeran on kitchen”
    • “Alexa, play The Beatles from iHeartRadio on kitchen”
    • Alexa, play “In the Air Tonight” from Pandora on bedroom
    • Alexa, play Planet Money podcast on living room
  • Can I use custom names for my HEOS-enabled devices and control them with Alexa?

If you already have other smart-home devices with those names, you can use almost any unique sounding words for your HEOS device name. For example, try changing the name to "Living Room TV," “Bedroom 1,” etc in the HEOS app. It’s important to ask Alexa to rescan your devices by saying "Alexa, discover my devices." so she discovers the new device name.

  • Does my AV receiver work with Alexa?

Yes, there are compatible HEOS-enabled Denon and Marantz AV receivers that work with Alexa. Please click here for more information.

  • How do I control a group of HEOS-enabled devices using Alexa?

Group your HEOS-enabled devices using the HEOS app and use an Alexa-friendly name. Once they are grouped, Alexa voice commands will control the group as a whole. You just need to use any individual member name of the group and Alexa will control it as a whole.

For example: Bedroom and Patio are grouped in HEOS app. If you want to control the whole group, you just need to request using individual member “Bedroom” or “Patio” (e.g. Alexa, volume up on Bedroom”), and Alexa will control it as a whole.

If you want to play audio content from only one HEOS-enabled device in the group, you must ungroup the device within the HEOS app.

  • Can I ask Alexa to switch input to HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc. from my AV receiver?

HDMI switching by number is supported by the HEOS Bar and HEOS AVR for now.

For all other HEOS-enabled AV receivers, you may say the following:

    • “Alexa, switch input to <DVD, Blu-ray, Game, etc.> on <room name>.”
  • Can I request Alexa to turn off my TV that is connected to AV receiver?

At this time, you must power on/off your TV separately.

  • Can I request Alexa to control video content (e.g. play next chapter of blu-ray/DVD, play/pause movie, etc) playing out from my Denon/Marantz AVR? )

At this time, the HEOS Home Entertainment skill only supports HEOS-enabled devices and the currently available Alexa-supported music services. The skill does not support control of devices made by other manufacturers outside of the family of HEOS-enabled brands.

  • When I use my Denon/Marantz AVR, Volume/Power Off commands sometimes don’t work in some of my inputs.

Please make sure you are in Main Zone of your AVR. Currently, we do not support the control of other zones with voice commands.
